TREE OF LIGHT

LUMINOSITY

Tree of Light, Opus Art Projects, March 2021was a fun and playful art installation to lift the spirits of the Beaches neighbourhood (in Toronto) at the end of a long Covid-winter. Part of the Luminosity festival put on by the Beach BIA, the installation was thousands of feet of glowing, colour-changing fiber optic cable, streaming down from the branches of a large tree on Queen Street East. The intention for this installation was to add a little fringe to a mid-winter tree and bring a little light and life to the neighbourhood. The Tree of Light was channeling spring with its light and hope.

Opus Art Projects, based in the Beaches neighbourhood, felt compelled to participate in this project so close to home. At that long and dark end-of-the-pandemic-time, it was important to Opus to contribute to lifting people's spirits through art. This installation was especially meaningful because the spirits being lifted were those of Opus' own family, friends, and neighbours.
